Interview

1. Where does your love for sewing come from, or the idea to turn it into a profession?
My passion for sewing began at age 17. I was inspired by my grandmother, a ladies’ tailor, and my mother, who’s been sewing since childhood. Craftsmanship and passion ran in our family, so it felt natural to carry on the tradition. Over time, sewing became more than a hobby – it became my life’s calling, which I now joyfully share with customers and students.

2. How long have you been running your shop?
We’ve been in business since 2014. What started small has grown into an established company over the years. For over a decade, we’ve offered high-quality fabrics, creative notions, and inspiring sewing classes with great enthusiasm. It’s incredibly rewarding to be part of a community that loves sewing as much as we do. Our goal remains to be a place where creativity and craftsmanship thrive.

3. Why should a Sewista buy fabrics “offline” rather than “online”?
a. How important is personal contact with customers to you?
Personal connection with customers is invaluable. In-store we can respond directly to wishes, offer one-on-one advice, and co-create ideas. This interaction forges a bond that’s hard to replicate online.
b. What added value does an “offline” shop offer?
A brick-and-mortar store offers something no screen can: the tactile experience. Customers can feel fabrics, see colors in natural light, and be inspired by patterns. Our team is always on hand with expert tips. At the same time, we reach distant customers via our online shop—offering the same range and quality plus personalized service—blending the best of both worlds.

4. What can a Sewista find in your shop?
Each Sewista finds a lovingly curated selection of premium fabrics—from classic cottons and jerseys to specialty gobelins and viscose. We also carry matching notions, patterns, and more for creative projects. Expect individualized, friendly advice: whether it’s choosing the right material, technical sewing tips, or creative inspiration, we’re here to help. Plus, we offer courses for beginners and advanced sewers. Our shop is a hub where creativity and community unite.

5. Where do you find inspiration for buying new fabrics and patterns?
We draw inspiration everywhere: trade fairs to spot the latest trends, careful fabric selection for quality, and community exchanges with Sewistas. Social media trends, customer requests, and pattern magazines like Fibre Mood—and independent designers—help us assemble a mix of modern and timeless designs for every taste.

6. Are there any hotspots near your shop that might interest Sewistas?
Our shop not only offers an inspiring retail experience but also free parking right outside the door. For those wanting a deeper dive into the craft, the nearby button town of Bärnau (15 minutes away) boasts an engaging Button Museum showcasing the history and variety of this small but significant accessory. We believe a visit here and around our region makes for a complete Sewista experience.

7. What was the first pattern you ever sewed yourself?
My very first pattern was a baby romper. It was a delightful project that sparked my passion. As a sewing novice, it felt wonderful to create something so personal and practical. Simple yet a great challenge, it was the perfect introduction—and my love for the craft has never waned.

8. Have you noticed a revival in DIY fashion?
Yes—definitely. More people are discovering the joy and value of making their own garments, whether to craft unique pieces or to express creativity. In recent years we’ve seen a clear resurgence in interest for sewing, reflected in our shop footfall and course enrollment. Customers prize the ability to design bespoke clothing that matches their style and enjoy the process of creating with care and love.

9. Do many young Sewistas shop with you?
Indeed. Sustainability and the courage to craft your own fashion draw more young Sewistas to us. Our sewing classes, trend-driven fabrics, and pattern variety especially resonate with younger customers eager to realize their own designs.

10. Which Sewista do you look up to?
So many! Deborah from Cas & Nina, Hanne from Naadjes en draadjes, Joke from The Needle of Choice—they all inspire me. The individuality and pride of our sewistas are amazing!

11. What is your ultimate dream?
Just to keep doing what we love: curating and presenting our collection in store. My personal dream? Releasing my own pattern.

12. What’s your favorite Fibre Mood pattern?
Hard to choose, but I’d say the Feliz dress from a recent issue.

13. What’s your favorite Fibre Mood fabric?
I love bold prints! The blue and orange Elodie dress fabric is definitely one of my favorites.

14. Which pattern would you recommend to a beginner Sewista?
The Alice sweater—it’s quick and easy. For spring, I love the Hettie skirt. And the Etta bag is beginner-friendly too!

15. Which pattern is perfect for an experienced sewista?
The Pola and Feliz require more precision but are a joy to wear.

16. What’s your golden tip for Fibre Mood sewistas?
Don’t be scared off by the number of stars on a pattern. Step out of your comfort zone—there’s always someone ready to help!
